My name is Dominique Dawkins McAlister and I am a self-taught artist born, raised and based in SC. I specialize in acrylic painting, but I also do some collage and mixed media work. I created Crowns and Gardens in 2013, at the beginning of the natural hair movement, in response to the lack of representation in the art field. Personally, natural hair is a beautiful indication of self-awareness and acceptance that I believe should be celebrated.

In the decade that followed, I continued to express myself through art as I fell in love, got married and started our family. I still focus on themes of growth and self care but also body positivity, following your dreams, pregnancy and motherhood.
